Chronografiki strengthening DIGI; new 4600 series wrapper launch, SM-500DPL order, and big SM-100 sales driven by new regulation

A new regulation requires the use of a scale printer by all butchers established in cities with a population of over 5000 residents.

Chronografii has been very successful in 2008. This success is a result of Chronografiki long-term contributions to the retail industry and their reputation of reliability established among Greek customers. Peter Charagionis, Managing Director of Chronografiki S.A., brings sales news about these areas for 2008.
"First, in 2008 Chronografiki started marketing the 4600 series wrapper, and found success with the AW-4600FX and the AW-4600CPR-IRS.
"Second, the A-B Supermarket (Delhaize group) acquired the Greek operations of PLUS, a hard discount brand under the Tegelmans group. PLUS planned to replace all their scales and decided to put DIGI scales in all 29 of their stores. They placed an order for 180 units of SM-500DPL V2 and 29 units of DS-162SVFB platform scales. The roll out started in May and was completed by the end of July.
"Key factors for their decision were the features and quality of DIGI scales, Chronografiki's excellent cooperation in terms of service and support, and the Application Software which they are using throughout the AB Supermarket stores.
"Third, a new regulation requires the use of a scale label printer by all butchers established in cities with a population of over 5000 people. This law took effect at the end of March and opens a great opportunity for DIGI. So far we have received orders for more than 1500 units of the SM-100 series. We are the undisputed market leaders in this area with our distribution network and we hope to capture the biggest part of a market estimated at 5000 units."

Report from USA
NBI closed the order for 950 units of SM-720 from Walmart

NBI held a meeting of all service distributors in Central America, for full Walmart support. John Baumann, President of NBI (2nd from right of the standing group) and Ivo Idavoy, Retail Sales Manager of NBI (2nd from right of the sitting group) organized the meeting.
NBI successfully closed an order for 950 units of SM-720 to Walmart. These scales will be installed during 2008 and 2009. When completed, Walmart Central America will be using only DIGI SM type scales in all service departments, meat, cheese, produce and bakery in all stores. In addition, all scales will be connected to the Walmart corporate network for data maintenance and support.

Why was DIGI selected?
NBI has over the years sold, installed and maintained almost 1200 SM type scales in Walmart stores. We have established a very effective service network, trained service technicians, adapted and modified software to meet the needs of Walmart. We already had proven that DIGI had the technical ability and resources to successfully work with and support Walmart in this very difficult market. At this time, Walmart desired to connect all scales into their corporate network. NBI, with the support from Heng Yong Chiang and Ikuo Harashima of Teraoka/DIGI group met with Walmart and fully demonstrated the connectivity of SM scales to the current Walmart network. Walmart IT people were very impressed. In addition, we had already established an effective, proven service support group. These factors coupled with a cost-effective proposal made DIGI the supplier of choice to replace all existing old non-Ethernet type scales in all existing and new stores. This was a very effective and successful accomplishment for everyone involved and shows the value of cooperation in closing orders for large multi national customers.
NBI sponsored and held a meeting of all servicing distributors involved with Walmart support. During this meeting, Ivo Idavoy, Retail Sales Manager of NBI, reviewed all aspects of this order with all servicing locations. In addition, a common service plan was discussed and will be provided to Walmart to assure that all servicing locations will provide the same level and cost of service no matter where the equipment is located. Everyone attending this meeting fully participated and was very excited and happy to be working with NBI, DIGI and Walmart.

Report from Sri Lanka
DIGI is enjoying the partnership with two fast-expanding retailers, Keells Super and Arpico Supercenter

left to right: Mr. S.D.S. Nilantha - Asst. Vice President of JKH (John Keells Holdings), Mr. S. Raveendran - Maintenance Manager of Keells Super and Angelo Selvarajah, Director of Asano Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. SM-300P in operation at the very modernized sales counter of Keells Super outlet
Asano Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. has established DIGI as a reliable brand for two big corporate clients and a few upcoming supermarket chains. All our clients use DIGI SM-300P.
Our major clients are Keells Super and Arpico Supercenter. We are proud to say that all Keells Super outlets are equipped with SM-300P and DI-28 Platform Scales. Arpico Supercenter, our other major client, is operating 10 outlets, and they use only SM-300P at their Supercenters.
Keells Super is well known as a retailer catering to a varied clientele and is renowned for the quality of products and for excellent customer service.

The first Keells Super supermarket was opened on 12th December 1991, where DIGI SM-15 and SM-60 scales were installed. In April 2003, Keells Super expanded its outlet-network in Colombo. Their overall expansion plan is to increase the number of Keells Super outlets to 100 and 120 throughout the Island. They are also looking at development in the South East Asian region.
The advanced technological features of DIGI products were the initial attraction and subsequently the very good after-sales support made them choose to stay with DIGI weighing scales for their entire network of retail outlets. Asano Lanka has provided all Keells Super outlets with very good after-sales service and has been very prompt in responding to their calls. Both corporate clients would very much like to try out any advanced models of DIGI weighing scales that can help them to continue to provide excellent customer service to all their clients.

Jaykay Marketing Services (Pvt.) Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka's premier blue-chip company - John Keells Holdings Plc, which manages the popular Keells Super supermarket chain.

Arpico Supercenter opened its first outlet in Battaramulla in August 2001. By 2003 the company had established two more outlets. In March 2005, Arpico decided to open another new outlet next to the company's head office in Nawinna for which it required state-of-the art weighing scales with networking capability. Following careful evaluation of the presentations given by three brands, they awarded the contract to Asano Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., marking the entry of DIGI products into Arpico Supercenters.
The excellent performance of the DIGI SM-300P scales at the new outlet prompted Arpico's decision to replace all weighing scales at the other 3 outlets with SM-300P because of this model's capability of storing a high number of PLUs, and its networking and Bar-coding features.
Arpico Supercenter concept was based on hypermarkets. Arpico outlets provide customers with adequate vehicle parking space and wide aisles within the store to enable comfortable "family shopping" sprees. They have about 70,000 active PLUs including FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods), general merchandise, toys, fashion, furniture and electronics. Mr. Joseph Ravikumar, Head of Operations, claims that Arpico is truly a "ONESTOP" shop for the whole family.
Arpico Supercenters are operating in 10 locations and their flagship Supercenter is located at Hyde Park Corner with shopping space of 100,000 sq. ft. (about 9,290 square meters). "After buying DIGI scales for the Nawinna outlet, we were satisfied with the after-sales service provided by Asano Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., and therefore, the management took a decision to source DIGI weighing scales for all their outlets from Asano Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.", Mr. Ravikuma said. It is the desire of the Arpico management to ensure that their valued customers are kept fully satisfied with the personalized service that Arpico Supercenters have become known for among its huge customer-base.

Richard Pieris is a blue-chip entity initially involved in the rubber, tire-retreading, plantation and shipping sectors of Sri Lankan business with 70 years of continuous operation. The diversified company entered the retail trade about 7 years ago with the company's long-known logo, Arpico.

PSI Systems AS wins a large contract from the Norwegian Postal Service for PS-130 Postal Scales

Petter Klipper (left), Product Manager of PSI Systems AS in Norway and the postal operator Ms. Therese Nord who works at the Mix Carte, where she operates a Postal shop-in-shop service. She is very happy working with the new postal scale solution from DIGI and PSI.
PSI, DIGI and a counter manufacturer worked together and made a special version of the DIGI PS-130 to be used for point of sale in post offices throughout Norway.
The versatile DIGI PS-130 is made to handle everything from letters of only a few grams to large cartons up to 35kg. The scale is placed in a hole in the counter with mounted rollers, which eases the operator's handling of packages. Adhering to regulations, the scale has both customer and operator displays. Since the customer display is placed on a separate stand, it is very easy for the customer to read the weight.
The Norwegian Postal Service made their choice of scales and supplier based on price, functionality, service and support.
PSI has already started the delivery of the initial quantity of 400 units of PS-130.
