Chronografiki S.A. secured an order for 3 units of FX-3600XL wrappers for their new Hypermarket, located in Thessaloniki, the second biggest city of Greece. Carrefour selected DIGI FX-3600XL for their new Hypermarket due to its space saving design, very good previous performance, and ability to link to their back office software via Ethernet. The FX-3600XL was installed at the end of July and is now operated for the meat packing in the backroom.

Report from Germany
Stefan Rolke, Sales Manager of DIGI Deutschland GmbH, reports the reasons why DIGI strongly penetrated into the German market

In the first 6 months of 2004, DS models, RM-40 and SM-300 series, have been marketed well through DIGI Deutschland's nation-wide dealer organisation.
The DS-788 in operation at a K&U shop, totally 200 units of DS-788 installed at the leading bakery chain.
The DS-788, becoming a trend in bakeries in Germany

"Sales of DS scales increased dramatically thanks to the economic models of the DS-682 and the DS-788, which is connectable with an ECR. One of the large deals was for a leading bakery chain - K&U, headquartered in Freiburg.
"This bakery chain K&U was already equipped with scales from a competitor, but for their new stores they looked for more reliable scales. The final key-points for deciding to choose DIGI were:

  • LED-display
  • Integrated power supply
  • Short delivery time
  • Reliable local dealer

"With the strong support from the whole Shanghai Teraoka organisation we kept the schedule and the customer is really happy with their decision and for the future we expect more units from this customer. The DS-788 could be a trend in bakeries in Germany. Now 150 units of DS-788 scales are used in the area around Mannheim/Frankfurt and 50 scales are in the area of Freibug."

Left to right: Yujiro Sato, Mr. Chia of Teraoka Singapore, and the owner, Mr. & Mrs. Schfer at a Fa. Schafer shop. The owners are very satisfied with the functions of the SM-300G.
The RM-40 and the SM-300 series, the scale printer best fit to bakeries, butchers and open markets

"The RM-40, it is the very scale printer best fitted to the use in the area of Papa-Mama shops and bakeries. In bakeries, the RM-40 was promoted as a small labeller on top of the receipt scale printer, as the RM-40's labelling function is mainly used before Easter and Christmas season for labelling products. One of the highlights of the RM-40 is the userfriendly PC software Digi Pixie. With Digi Pixie, DIGI has a strong weapon to fight against competitors.
SM-300G at a Fa. Schafer shop. Fa. Schafer, headquartered closely at Dusseldorf, is also a producer of sausage, which deliver to other butchers.
"The butcher market is a very tough and competitive market in Germany. In order to convince butchers to buy a new brand name scale, a good design, reliable software and an attractive price level are essential. DIGI products have these requirements, that is the reason that DIGI has been successfully penetrated into butcher shops. Furthermore, with the integration of the RF-card (like DP-90), we expect more sales of scales in the area of the open markets where SM-300G will have a big advantage with the LCD-display."

    Report from France
Renald Ringuette, Managing Director of DIGI France S.A. reports their latest progress of DIGI: Sales breakthrough to Match and the cooperation with System U for the traceability

Match selected DIGI as a supplier in 2004 for the scale and the wrapper

    The modern premise of MATCH
We opened a new account in France, called Match. This year DIGI France installed the full equipment line to Match's two stores, the first store in May, located at Chalon department 51 and later the second store in Creteil department 51. Each store has 5 units of SM-300 series, one SM-500TDP, a FX-3600XL at the meat department and also a DP-90 for Bakery and one DS-160AP. The SM-300 is installed with four variant types (Elevated,Bench, Hanging and Self-Service) responding to the demand for the sales counters. The SM-500TDP was selected for the meat counter for its traceability because it is easier to operate with a Touch Screen.
The business relationship with Match dates back to the year 2000, and since then, 18 units of DIGI Wrapper FX-3600XL's have been installed. This year DIGI was selected as a supplier for the scales and the DIGI SM series made its debut at Match. That is, Match evaluated the DIGI brand highly and DIGI France's reliable structure of service support for DIGI wrapper since 2000.
Match, a subsidiary of CORA in Belgium, is based at Lille 59 in Northern France. Match operates 149 stores and 5 hypermarketsin France, and most of them are located in the North and North East of France closer to Belgium.

DIGI working with System U for the strict traceability regulation in France

System U is the biggest customer of DIGI France S.A.
The traceability software program has been installed in all DIGI products at SUPER U, the supermarket operated by System U.
In 2003, DIGI Application R&D team of DIGI Belgium developed the new software programs for traceability: Parser, DIGI Driver and Win DIGI Lite, which are used for communicating from System U's back office to DIGI Scales and Wrappers.
We have installed the new traceability software for DIGI products at System U's 58 stores, consisting of DIGI Wrappers, DPS series and SM series from January to July 2004.
System U has a plan to have 300 stores done by the end of this year. They have over 768 stores nationwide in France so they will keep doing more installations in the fall and next year.
We expect this will force some stores to change DIGI 2600 series for 3600 series and this will create new sales on wrappers.
Traceability is in big demand for the EU since 2001. France is the first country in Europe to ask for more than print on the labels. The regulation in France also needs to be followed and compare the weight of each Lot #. That is, for example if they receive a back of the beef 200kg, then our system has to get back to the back office the weight of each pack to be able to follow it to receive 200kg and wrap 180kg.
If they do not follow this regulation properly then there could be a penalty. I am sure this will come also in other EU countries.
We are very proud to develop the traceability software program to meet the strict demand of the French specifications and contribute to the successful installation at System U, our biggest customer.

    Report from worldwide
DIGI Food industry products marketed worldwide
Reported by Lawrence Morrison, Senior Sales Executive of DIGI Europe Ltd.

2 Sisters Food Group, the largest chicken producer in UK, works together with DIGI John Betteridge, Northern sales representative of DIGI Europe Ltd. (DEL) received a telephone call from a company called 2 Sisters, the largest chicken producer in the UK, with sales in excess of 1.25 million birds per week.
Little did we know at that time that this would open the door to the largest single order that DEL has received since it started marketing directly to end user's in the UK.
So impressed by the pricing offered to them, that very soon another site, in Birmingham, asked if DEL could help with the loan of a Check Weigher. DEL did this although no one else in the country could offer a next day loan.
It was not long after this that DEL was asked to quote for the supply of a range of equipment, which culminated in the sale of 9HI-3600 installed in the second quarter of 2004.
Additional machines are required later in the year for a further 10 lines which DEL will be participating in. Well done to John and the engineers involved in the installation of the equipment.

"MeatMaster" works with DIGI food industry line equipment and allows it to control ordering, labeling and dispatching process and exchange data with factory accountant system.
"The agreement was one of the very important reasons for the customer to choose DIGI HI's for weigh/labeling", Egidijus Klimasauskas of New Vision Baltija Uab pointed out.

Busch Werke AG, leading the food industry in Switzerland
Heinz Busch, Managing Director and his team of sales and technical support members are forging ahead with the constant sales of HI-3600's, and now they have placed the first orders for four of the new 700 series variants. This makes a total of 16 units ordered for the Swiss market this year.
At the DEL sales conference held in April this year, Heinz Busch made a presentation on how they approached the market in Switzerland for the sales of weigh price labellers.
Many of the points Heinz presented revolved around the need to fully understand the full requirements of customers and the need to work closely with customers to fulfil their individual needs where ever possible.
Taking this opportunity, we congratulate Heinz and his team for not only this year's sales but also for the high percentage of sales in the last 3 years where Busch have catapulted DIGI to become a leader in Switzerland for weigh price labelling.

Orenpack Packaging Machines & Materials Ltd., in Israel
Judd Orenstein, Managing Director of Orenpack, is confident that 2004 will be a good year for the supply of DIGI equipment into Israel.
Already this year, working closely with the sales and technical staff at DEL, Judd has secured an order for the supply a 5 x WI- 3600 with integrated LA-3600 and special long-outfeed.
Lawrence Morrison and Glenn Fruish of DEL discussed the project with Judd Orenstein and the customer at IFFA in May this year to finalise the details of the order before it was placed with DEL at the end of May. The machines would be destined for a brand new factory that is due to open in September 2004.
Ruven Wald, Senior technician of Orenpack, visited DEL in the UK to inspect the machines prior to their shipment to Israel in the middle of July.
Additional equipment was ordered in August to compliment the lines already delivered. These were LA-3600 mounted in bottom labeller cabinets for 3 of the 5 working lines
We are confident that DIGI food industry products will be marketed well under the expertise of Judd Orenstein and his team.
