De papieren liners die vroeger gebruikelijk waren bij het afdrukken van etiketten zijn dus niet meer nodig. Niet alleen is er geen afval van de liners, de lengte van het etiket wordt ook automatisch aangepast aan de vereiste hoeveelheid informatie op het etiket, waardoor de etiketgrootte tot een minimum wordt beperkt. Linerless etiketten verminderen dus de milieu-impact van linerafval en maken etikettering goedkoper en efficiënter.
